Some cycling trips are measured by kilometres. Others are remembered by the moments shared along the way.

Our Shimanami Kaido Osaka, Japan 2026 was undoubtedly the latter.

Over eight memorable days in Japan 2026, 42 participants came together for a journey that offered far more than just spectacular roads. From the moment we arrived in Osaka, the excitement was already building. Soon, ferries, islands, bridges, and endless coastal scenery would replace city skylines, setting the stage for an unforgettable cycling adventure.

The Shimanami Kaido is often regarded as one of the world's most beautiful cycling routes, and it didn't take long for everyone to understand why. Every bridge revealed another breathtaking island view, while every descent rewarded riders with fresh sea breeze and peaceful coastal landscapes. Under clear blue skies and cool spring temperatures, every kilometre felt effortless.

Of course, no Brompton journey would be complete without plenty of laughter.

One of the funniest moments belonged to Derick Tan, who enthusiastically accelerated along a riverside section, only to realise moments later that he had taken the wrong route. Fortunately, the unexpected detour simply became another story for everyone to laugh about over dinner.

Even a single flat tyre couldn't slow the spirit of the group. With teammates quickly gathering to help, what could have been an inconvenience instead became another reminder that every Brompton adventure is built on teamwork and looking after one another.

Along the route, riders were frequently greeted by friendly Japanese locals. Simple waves, smiles, and cheerful greetings created heartwarming moments that crossed language barriers, reminding everyone that cycling has a unique way of connecting people around the world.

As expected, cameras were constantly in action. Nearly everyone became the trip's photographer, stopping to capture dramatic bridge crossings, quiet fishing villages, colourful coastal views, and countless group photos that perfectly reflected the joy of exploring together.

Beyond the rides themselves, every day introduced something different. Riders enjoyed freshly prepared island-style udon noodles, explored the famous Kuroshio Fish Market, admired the iconic Red and Yellow Pumpkin artworks, visited the unique Cyclists' Temple, experienced overnight ferry travel, relaxed at the beautiful WAKKA Glamping Resort, and discovered why Japan remains one of the world's favourite cycling destinations.

Across four days of riding, the group covered a total of 147 kilometres, travelling from Imabari through the famous island chain before continuing to cultural landmarks like Naoshima and Takamatsu. Every destination added a new chapter to the adventure, whether it was crossing another magnificent bridge, enjoying local cuisine, or simply sharing conversations while overlooking the Seto Inland Sea.

By the end of the journey, what participants remembered most wasn't just the distance completed, but the friendships strengthened along the way. Every meal shared, every bridge crossed, every photo taken, and every laugh exchanged became part of a story that will stay with them long after returning home.

This is what makes a Brompton journey special. It isn't simply about reaching the destination. It's about the people beside you, the experiences collected together, and the memories that continue long after the bicycles are folded away.

Until the next adventure, thank you to everyone who made the Japan Trip 2026 another unforgettable chapter in our cycling journey.
